Today we continue our journey to sites that are about the leaders of our nation. The office of the President is the highest elected office a citizen can aspire to, and over the years the men that have held the office reflect the times in which they were elected. Today’s FamSite looks at the home of one of the more popular presidents.

The site is called The Hermitage, and is dedicated to the home of Andrew Jackson, the seventh President of the United States. He was the hero of the War of 1812 with the British (sometimes called the second revolutionary war), but he reflected the spirit of our nation’s expansion during the early 19th century, a period in which the concept of Manifest Destiny was being fulfilled. He was the first president from the west, being elected from the state of Tennessee. The Hermitage was his home, and here you can learn about the man, his family, and his public life.

This site is a great place to learn about the “Age of Jackson”, and the early part of our nation’s history. Enjoy your stop here today.
